Fair Isle designs are multi-coloured patterns and jumpers are traditionally made in the round – a technique which produces a seamless design and reduces wool wastage. Aran designs are a textured cable knit designed to create extra warmth and are traditionally the creamy white colour of undyed wool. Argyle patterns are a distinct design of diamond shapes with diagonal criss crossing lines overlaid. Crocheted designs create a looser open weaved knit. Fishermen’s jumpers are traditionally made from wool as the lanolin oil provides a natural protection against the elements.
