Wearing lipstick is a quick and straightforward way to add colour and definition to your face and can change your look in an instant. To wake up your make-up, discover my top tips on how to apply the perfect pout and help your lipstick stay in place.
1. Apply a lip base.
A lip primer provides a smooth base for your lipstick to adhere to and helps the colour last longer. Colour Me Beautiful’s lip base can be used as a primer for eyeshadow too.
2. Use lip pencil.
A lip pencil in a natural colour tone provides a base colour and can help correct uneven shaped lips. Use the lip pencil to draw around the outside of the lips and then fill in the whole of the lip area with the side of the pencil. You can also use coloured lip pencils to give different effects to your favourite lipstick. If you have a cooler skin tone, try the Posie lip pencil colour to deepen and brighten your lip tone. If you don’t like to use lipstick every day, try just using a lip pencil instead for a natural look to your make-up.
3. Apply with a lip brush.
Use a lip brush to apply your lipstick. This gives a more professional finish and better coverage. Blot the lips with a tissue and apply again. Throughout the day, touch up your lipstick, particularly after eating or drinking.
4. Add a touch of gloss.
Finally, to make your lips look plumper apply a touch of lip gloss in the centre of your lips to catch the light.
The key to making lipstick colour work for you is to choose a product in the right shade that works in balance with your own unique hair colour, eye colour and skin tone.
